Batteries only. Nothing else.

Dead battery?
A new one comes to you.

A local battery tech brings the right battery to your car, tests the charging system first, installs it where the car sits and takes the old one away. 250 cities, seven days a week.

Will your battery make it?

Noticed any of these?

Answer the two questions to see where your battery stands.

Find your city

+ Find your city

Type your city. Call the local tech.

+ 02  How it works

Four steps, one visit

  1. Step 1

    You call

Use the number on your city page. Give the year, make and model and where the car is.

  2. Step 2

    We test

Battery health, alternator output and starter draw, so you only buy a battery if it's the battery.

  3. Step 3

    We install

Memory saved, terminals cleaned, hold-down tight, and the battery registered if your car needs it.

  4. Step 4

    We recycle

The old battery leaves with the tech. You're running again, usually in under an hour.

+ 03  Battery life by climate

Where you live decides how long it lasts

Heat wears batteries out; cold finds the weak ones. Tap a state to see its cities and what battery life looks like there.

Alabama: Hot and humid, about 3 years Alaska: Sub-zero, 3 to 5 years Arizona: Desert heat, 2 to 3 years Arkansas: Four seasons, 3 to 5 years California: Mild coastal, 4 to 6 years Colorado: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Connecticut: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Delaware: Four seasons, 3 to 5 years Florida: Hot and humid, about 3 years Georgia: Hot and humid, about 3 years Hawaii: Hot and humid, about 3 years Idaho: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Illinois: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Indiana: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Iowa: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Kansas: Four seasons, 3 to 5 years Kentucky: Four seasons, 3 to 5 years Louisiana: Hot and humid, about 3 years Maine: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Maryland: Four seasons, 3 to 5 years Massachusetts: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Michigan: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Minnesota: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Mississippi: Hot and humid, about 3 years Missouri: Four seasons, 3 to 5 years Montana: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Nebraska: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Nevada: Desert heat, 2 to 3 years New Hampshire: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years New Jersey: Four seasons, 3 to 5 years New Mexico: Four seasons, 3 to 5 years New York: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years North Carolina: Four seasons, 3 to 5 years North Dakota: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Ohio: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Oklahoma: Four seasons, 3 to 5 years Oregon: Mild coastal, 4 to 6 years Pennsylvania: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Rhode Island: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years South Carolina: Hot and humid, about 3 years South Dakota: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Tennessee: Four seasons, 3 to 5 years Texas: Hot and humid, about 3 years Utah: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Vermont: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Virginia: Four seasons, 3 to 5 years Washington: Mild coastal, 4 to 6 years West Virginia: Four seasons, 3 to 5 years Wisconsin: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years Wyoming: Cold winters, 4 to 5 years

+ 04  Warning signs

The eight warning signs

Batteries rarely die without warning. Two or more of these and it's time for a test. What each one means →

A battery tech working at the front of a car
Slow crank
The engine turns over more slowly than it used to, worst when it's cold.
Clicking
A click or rapid clicking when you turn the key or press start.
Dim lights
Headlights and dash lights dim at start-up or at idle.
Warning light
A battery or charging light, or a low-voltage message.
Electrical glitches
Radio resets, power windows slow, screens reboot.
Start-stop quits
On start-stop cars, the system stops shutting the engine off.
Corrosion
White or blue-green crust building up on the terminals.
Age
More than three years old, or two in a hot climate.

+ 05  Why not the store?

A battery tech at the car vs. a trip to the store

Car-Battery.xyz

  • The battery comes to the car, wherever it stopped
  • Battery, alternator and starter tested before anything is sold
  • Trunk, under-seat and behind-panel batteries handled
  • Battery registration on cars that need it
  • Old battery taken away for recycling

The store run

  • Needs a jump, a ride, or a tow to get there
  • Often a quick voltage check, if anything
  • Hidden batteries may be "not something we do here"
  • Registration usually skipped
  • You carry the old one back in

+ 06  Questions

Battery questions, answered

How does mobile battery replacement work?

Find your city and call the number on the page. Tell the tech your year, make and model and where the car is. They bring the right battery, test the battery and charging system, install the new battery where the car is parked and take the old one away for recycling. Most installs take twenty to forty minutes.

Do you only do batteries?

Yes. Car-Battery.xyz is batteries only: replacement, testing, jump starts and terminal service for cars, trucks, SUVs, and the 12-volt batteries in hybrids and EVs. For any other repair, Mobile Auto Repair sends a mobile mechanic.

Will you test it before replacing it?

Always. A battery that keeps dying isn't always worn out; a weak alternator or a parasitic drain will kill a new battery too. The tech tests first, so you only buy a battery when the battery is the problem.

How long does a car battery last?

Usually three to five years. Desert heat can cut that to two or three, and mild climates can stretch it to six. Every city page shows what battery life looks like there.

Can you replace a battery that's in the trunk or under a seat?

Yes. Many newer cars hide the battery in the trunk, under a seat or behind a panel, and many need it registered with the car's computer afterward. Both are part of the job.

What happens to my old battery?

It leaves with the tech and goes to be recycled. Car batteries should never go in the trash, and the lead, plastic and acid are all recovered and reused.
